Bob's Basement

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

I had the exceptional fortune of visiting Bob Burn's hallowed home while visiting friends in LA. Bob lives in Burbank - I suggest you Google him and order his book to get the very interesting story of his life. Long story short - Bob happens to have an amazingly diverse and rich collection of screen-used props from the past half a century of movie making... in his house. It's phenomenal, and Bob and his wife are two of the sweetest people you could ever meet!

Typewriters from Naked Lunch!

Bob poses with me and the Time Machine and the REAL Robot Monster helmet!!

The Creature and the Lambert Helmet (repainted for the end) from A L I E N.

Hey there!

The Wolfman cane topper!!

I also took a gigs worth of reference material for building a better prop, here and there.

The Star Wars Cantina alien - I was a 5 year old all over again!

Perhaps the most awe-inspiring moment was when I was allowed to hold and even "monkey around" with King Kong. Yes - the real armature from 1933. Woah.

Bishop from Aliens, looking rather stunned.

A foam pyro X-Wing wing from Star Wars.

The articulated Aliens Chestburster rig.

Darth Vader's severed hand and lightsaber from Return of the Jedi.

A most heartfelt thank you to Bob and Kathy for letting us nerd-out in your home!
