Tea, flowers, music

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Lisa and I went to a Japanese Tea Ceremony this past weekend. We also learned about Japanese flower arranging, and listened to some traditional Japanese music!

Some of the floral arrangements, which all seem to follow rigid construction rules. Very interesting stuff.

The musicians.

Lisa and I both thought she had an ice scraper in her right hand at first. It was a great weekend!

I finished the Wedge Snowspeeder repaint for Phil over at Rebelscum.

FIRE!

Jonathan and Clara came over this week to film stills and HD footage for his student project. I was the pyro technician, and water bucket wrangler.

Happy Birthday, Lambtron!

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Lisa's Birthday is today! Happy birthday, to my darling wife :)

We celebrated earlier in the month with Tom and Jane, at The Melting Pot.

Five seconds later... FOOD MAYHEM!

Tom made a Peep Cake for Lisa! Perfect for dipping into the Dark Chocolate/Amaretto combo!

And oh how we dipped.

Simon wanted to say hello. 2 years into the house, and he's a happy cat.

Hangs out in the strangest of places. Apparently that is comfortable?

We then had a Birthday party for Lisa on Sunday, and because of the close proximity to Easter, Lamb Cakes are plentiful. We split the head.

And of course, what kind of update would I have without a picture of little guys I painted for someone?

Did you know that today is also Coco's Birthday? Happy Birthday Coco!!!

It seems like only yesterday that she was a kitten. She's a pip!

Lunar Großerhund

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Better photos coming later in the week, but for now, here's a few impromptu shots of my Grosser Hund kit, which I modified for Lunar missions :)

Lunar Großerhund II

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I finished a photoshoot for the Großer and the V ship. I'll be updating my MaK Model page soon. Lots of stuff to do over the next month, for the Wonderfest in KY! Lisa and I cleaned like dogs all weekend, and the house looks really nice. It was amazing to drink it all in, later Sunday afternoon, with all the windows open, and the warm Spring air sweeping through. The cats are on an absolute rambunctious natural high. Coco is much more lovey than usual, and Simon is like an old wizard on a hill, as he sits half-lidded on the back porch and lets the wind whip 'round his whiskers. We finally caught up on Stargate Atlantis, and are within 8 episodes of getting up to speed on SG1. Once the current TV season ends, we'll probably dig back into TNG trek - we stalled halfway through season one (and can you blame us?).

Here's a picture of me wailing on a goat. Happy Monday! Song in iTunes? Click here.

Spriiing

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Lisa and I went for a walk in the neighborhood after work, yesterday. It's great to see everything from a different angle than a car window, and was absolutely perfect outside. After we ate dinner and watched a couple shows, I worked on stuff in the basement until 1 am. I took this pic when I came upstairs to shut everything down for the night.

Coco was completely zonked out on the loveseat.

I was bleary-eyed, and placed a model in the case to dry, out of the way.

Coco woke up a little, so I took her upstairs to her window.

Here's the chairs we finally were able to purchase. The table arrives some time soon, and then we can finally entertain people like grown ups!

Lisa yelling "HEY!" as I took her photo, before we left for work. She puts her make-up on in the car now.

We have flowers?!

Lisa, with make-up, in the parking lot this morning. Doug was getting out of his car at the same time... he yelled something to us, but I didn't catch what he was saying, so I yelled back "who are you?!?" as other people stood around watching it unfold - always aim for the maximum funny. When he caught up to us, he said "I was yelling 'you're late! get to your office!' but I guess you didn't hear". Hehe.

Spriiing

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I love a good flat surface, invisible seam lines, and freshly-laid Plastruct T-rod!

I also am fooling around with making a convincing "lunar surface" for a model display surface. The base is wood, built up in the center with Das Pronto, and them sprayed from a 12" distance with spray glue. Then I sprinkled diorama snow (like you see at the train hobby stores) and hit it with another coat of spray glue. Finally, I gave everything a liberal coat of sandable primer. It resulted in a great coarse texture with excellent tooth.

Tonight I will hit it with dark gray and white powdered pigments, and then remove the tape to expose the wood border/sides.

Exercise or end up here ;)

Lisa and I went for a nice walk yesterday in our local graveyard. It's quiet and idyllic, if you don't mind all the corpses...

Lots of wonderful things to look at, like patinas on doors...

Relics from the US, circa WWI.

This British gun was at Flanders - wow.

I'm also having a lot of fun making little embellishments for a Blade Runner prop... always thinking!
