On our way!
Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Well, Lisa and I made the 24 hour trek to Tokyo, braving airplane rides...

Readouts that didn't really tell me much...

(although to be fair, sometimes they were dead accurate)

...and food designed to kill us. Heh.

We landed at Narita!

We were welcomed by signs!

And more signs!

Did I mention the important role that signs play?

Teriyaki burger! I've been up for 26 hours straight, so that's it for now. More tomorrow!
Day one - Akihabara and Shibuya
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

We started off our first day by getting up at 5am, and not being able to fall back asleep. It was 4pm in Texas, so we were able to video chat with Maren and her barbie doll.

Here is the view from our hotel window.

Our breakfast consists of a croissant, thick doughy bread, salad with caesar dressing, fried egg, ham, two mini hot dogs, fruit cup, hot vegetable soup, coffee, and juice.

We hit Akihabara when it opens, looking for model kits.

Boy do we find them!

I even find MY model kit for sale (secondary market) at twice the original price! Cool! (it's the one with the red label)

I dunno what it is, but it's cool.

Anyone need a Karl for less than half off?!?!

Awww, me am use chopsticks.

I make it look easy!

HACHIKO!

Whee! A real life Seymour!

Lisa was thrilled to be here.

Dr TaK talks to Masa. Moshi moshi!

Okay, seriously - Tokyu Hands is FUCKING INSANE. JANE!!! From left to right: different diameter aluminum blanks -disc shaped (just one of many different shapes), metal hemispheres & spheres & ball bearings in all shapes and sizes - HUGE ones up top!!, sheet metals, rolled metals.

All manner of plastics - all shapes and sizes. Here's a sampling of the clear tube section.

You want Y-Wing domes? what color? JAPAN, baby.

This is your GOD.

Alice Limousine = Cosplay place. Hehehehe.

Lovely trees.

I know! Can you imagine what strange almost-like-home menu items there are?!

In the distance - a strange building.

Upon closer inspection, it got stranger. It also had a Disney store jammed in the bottom.

CRAZY big intersection.... hundreds upon hundreds of people. Did I mention the rail line delays due to high winds and a suicide? Yeah, apparently people jumping onto the tracks/into trains is a common occurance.
Tomorrow? WONDERFESTIVAL!!!

Day four - Kichijochi & Kokobunji
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Hey, check out how all-American this meal is, in the subway station!

A theme bus spotted in Shinjuku.

Today we went to see Kow Yokoyama and his wonderful and friendly wife!

We rode this line and stopped at the Wave store on the way.

Where we saw an awesome parking lot for bicycles.

And another one across the street.

The Wave store had Kow's Polar Bears on display!

And whole heaps of AMAZING modellers materials.

Everything imaginable.

Once at the Yokoyama's, we played Maschinen Krieger. My blue was close to correct, but my rusts were perfect!

The Yokoyama's Wii people!!!

Kow gave me one of his mixing pallettes! I think you can see this particular one in the latest Model Graphix! I am honored!

Ths blew my mind - they had chocolate covered potato chips!! Salt and chocolate?! YEAH!

I even got to see one of my favorites - the Propaganda, which was reworked (and seen in last month's MG mag).

Mrs. Yokoyama gave Lisa a custom Blythe doll!!! She too feels so honored and touched!

MaK unit markings on a Bomber Jacket!
Words cannot express the kindness we are continually shown here in Japan. Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Yokoyama for opening their home to Lisa, TaK, and I this evening. Another evening I will truly cherish!

Scored at the Wave store.

The big haul!

Pearlescent "eyes".

Decals.

Super duper teeny led!

Tensioner springs!

Option parts!

More!

That cool tubing you get in Tamiya F1 cars!

Lenses in shapes!

Photoetched tie back thingies...

Decals!
