My Models:

AFS Mk.II

This is the Wave AFS Mk.II kit, which I modified to reflect Kow Yokoyama's latest build showing how the suit "splits" open. I also used a "Zoids" head and a resin torso purchased at Wonderfestival. Click here for the build diary!

I wanted to convey a sense of realism that the suit would have, in the real world.

So as I weathered the parts, I thought about how they would wear, scratch, and slide.

Markings are whimsical, and the striping is hand painted over the brown base color.

With anything containing organic subject matter, great care must be taken to give those particular parts "life"!

The liquid masking used on the clear part kept it from fogging over while the model underwent weathering and dull coating.

It's a little hard to see unless you see the model in person, but the upper engine bits are rusted and have a cast texture. Unfortunately the coloring is very close to the body color, so I think the intent was lost in this instance. Ah well, maybe next time.

Photoetched dials, wires, and add-on greeblies all "sell" the insides. The inner parts that come into contact with the pilot have all received a patina to make them look like an old baseball glove... worn soft leather.

More of that lines the helmet.
