PKA Ausf HO Originally released in 1984. Kit #02 There is a 1/20th kit available from Nitto. P.K.A. (pronounced "pay car") stands for Panzer Kampf Anzug (armored fighting suit, in German). The body is a Hasegawa 1/48 Defender Helicopter. Arms and legs are scratch built. Yokoyama-san did not approve the first engineered attempt for the kit molds, and they were redesigned. There were 35 tweaks to the molds, and the final design is perfect with two exceptions - the hinge is too large and the exhaust does not open. The kit suffers from a few fit problems due to the tweaking, and the engine 220TRM Type H1 should be replaced with 210TRM Type H0. This armored suit is the cockpit of PK41 Hornisse, which can detach and act autonomously. This explains the enlarged glazed canopy (better visual range). This was meant to be replaced with an armored canopy, but when production of the Hornisse was delayed, 200 PKA HOs were sent to battle. The Strahl's response to the AFS, the P.K.A. could be used independantly... but was usually coupled to the Hornisse PK 41. |
